GLOBAL CITIZEN YEAR
Global Citizen Year uses the power of a deep, global immersion to unlock curiosity, conviction and courage in our next generation leaders.
Each year we recruit the most talented high school graduates from across the country and around the world. We invest in young people who represent our society’s diversity, and use the formative transition between high school and college to ignite a higher purpose — preparing emerging leaders in ways that classroom learning alone cannot.
For the equivalent of an academic year, Global Citizen Year Fellows live with a family in a community in Africa, Latin America or Asia and work as an apprentice to local efforts advancing education, health, and sustainability. Our learning model wraps coaching and curriculum around real-world experience to ensure that our Fellows develop the insights that shape their character, guide their higher education and equip them to make a meaningful impact over the course of their lives.
Ultimately, through partnerships with colleges, companies and policy-makers, we’re forging a new educational pathway to launch the leaders our world needs now.
Since our launch in 2010, we’ve grown our operation ten-fold. Our nearly 1,000 alumni are thriving in college and careers, and have been honored as Fulbright Scholars, Davis Peace Prize winners, Gates Millennium Scholars and Teach For America corps members. We have raised >$25M in seed capital from a growing roster of funders and partners, and earned > $10M in revenue from tuition and partnership fees. We’ve built a talented global team, advisory council and board of directors, and our work has been featured in prominent forums from the PBS NewsHour and Chronicle of Higher Education to the Goldman Sachs’ Builders & Innovators Summit, and has been recognized by thought leaders including Katie Couric and Nicholas Kristof.
